Buffalo Bills linebacker Von Miller has been suspended for four games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, the league announced today. Miller will be eligible for reinstatement on October 28 and could return for the Bills’ matchup against the Miami Dolphins on November 3.

The suspension follows a November 2023 incident in which Miller turned himself in to authorities in Dallas due to an arrest warrant related to a domestic violence case. He was subsequently released on a $5,000 bond. His longtime girlfriend had accused him of assaulting her at their home, with the warrant stemming from a charge of assaulting a pregnant person, a third-degree felony. Miller has maintained that the allegations were false and exaggerated, and the case was eventually closed without any charges being filed. Despite this, the NFL has been conducting an ongoing investigation.

This isn’t the first time Miller has faced scrutiny regarding domestic violence; he was investigated for a similar incident in 2021 while with the Denver Broncos, but no charges were filed in that case either.

Von Miller signed a six-year, $120 million contract with the Bills in 2022. The 35-year-old Super Bowl 50 MVP has recorded five total tackles and three sacks this season, contributing to the Bills’ 3-1 start.

Selected second overall by the Denver Broncos in the 2011 NFL Draft after four seasons at Texas A&M, Miller had a standout career that included winning Super Bowl 50, where his defensive leadership and two forced fumbles helped secure a 24-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers. In 2016, he signed a six-year, $114.5 million contract with the Broncos, becoming the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history at that time.

After a series of injuries in Denver, Miller was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 for second and third-round draft picks. He went on to win a Super Bowl with the Rams, contributing two sacks in their 32-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.

Miller signed his new deal with the Bills in March 2022 but suffered an ACL tear. He returned in 2023 for what was statistically his least productive season, and with this suspension, it appears that 2024 may not be ideal for him either.

In related news, the NFL also announced the suspension of Cleveland Browns rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. for five games without pay for a violation of the Personal Conduct Policy.
